Michele Sainsbury
Travel writing has been a passion for many years and was initiated by the writing of Bruce Chatwin. I was inspired by his yearning to explore, his sense of location and resonance with people on journeys. His concept of the 'anatomy of restlessness' has always intrigued me. I'm also inspired by many other writers and passionate about photography, music and design. I have a mild obsession with good old fashioned quotes and carry notebooks of them scribbled down from random places that I use for inspiration and like to tie in with my stories when possible.
Transiting out of a former career in the music industry gave the opportunity to expand on other creative ventures, that ranged from contributing to an independent Australian surf movie to assisting on locations with ex Reuters French Photographer Regis Colin in New Zealand, as he documented for a book. I expanded on studies taken at Auckland University and undertook travel writing workshops including from former Lonely Planet writer and author Thomas Kohnstamm and Australasian award winning travel writer Susan Buckland.
I'm currently based in my country of origin New Zealand doing a series of stories and will be continuing on with more South Pacific adventures.
